Mountains of Misery Volunteers Needed

Want to be part of the Mountain of Misery – without the pain?
Subj: “Help Wanted — need SAG and course marshals and ham operators”
If you’re available to help for this year’s Mountains of Misery ride, we need you. Perhaps your spouse or partner is riding, and you can help all day or half a day? This year the event is on Sunday May 29 (Memorial Day Weekend).
This is truly an epic course, as those of you who have participated know, and it is particularly demanding for marshals and SAG drivers because of 100+ miles of twisting 2-lane mountain roads… with some aggressive riders looking to earn PRs.
We’re increasing the support on the course this year for the event, which is under new management, and we need savvy drivers who can handle the tough conditions and committed riders!
We need to put more marshals at rest stops (there are 8) and get more SAG vehicles on the course. Ham radio licensed drivers are particularly sought, as we cover a big territory.
Because of a renewed emphasis on safety, we’ll be providing training for SAG drivers, ham operators, and course marshals this year. So you may want to consider this a way to improve your skills for other events you may support.
If you’re interested in making the drive up to Blacksburg this year to help us support the riders, and improve relations between automobiles and bikes, we could really use your help.
Just get in touch with me, and I’ll get you to the people who are awaiting your call!
