This is a Show & Go Ride: There is no ride leader.
Ride Description: Another ride on Tuesday night from Virginia Transportation Museum, ending at the Cornerstone Grill for refreshments. An ideal ride for those who have been riding the Low Landers ride, but want to take the next step toward being able to tackle Mill Mountain. Helen Burnette introduced us to this ride some time ago, much to our liking. We have been doing this ride for some time, but only now are listing it on the club calendar.
Additional Info: From the start we travel across Walnut, pick up the Greenway, then climb up Garden City on Yellow Mountain Road, out to Bandy for a fantastic down hill. Then you climb the Cat 5 hill (less than 1/2 mile) back up to Yellow Mountain Road and into Garden City. Another great downhill back down Yellow Mountain road to the Greenway, onto Wise Avenue and into Downtown and the Grill.

Ride Leader: Dwight Leffel
Ride Leader Email: annenddwight@aol.com
Ride Leader Phone: (540)890-8168
Ride Description: The Vista Ride (shortened) is the old Vista Ride, but rather than starting at the Bank in Troutville we will start at the Greenwood Restaurant about 3 miles North on US 11. Reason is to avoid the traffic on US 11, which is not the safest road. We will meet at 1:00 PM and ride to Buchanan on the Vista route, with the return on Lithia and Nace roads. Since this is an everybody ride, the hot dogs can travel at their own pace and should know the route. Everyone else will regroup at all turns, with noone being dropped (not for long anyway).
Additional Info: Weather looks pretty good, with a cloudy day being forcasted, but everyone should wear sun screen regardless. We will take our normal “potty” bread at the service station just outside Buchannan before tackleing the gradual incline up Lithia and Nace roads. You do remember that the prevailing wind up that road is smack dab in your face. Stop your gripping, most inclines are less than 1%. lol

The beautiful Adulare (flatter) route is about… the same length as the 3 Peaks route (19 vs 20 miles), but it is mostly flat, ascending only about 700ft (vs 2700ft of the 3 Peaks route).

Both the Adulare and 3 Peaks routes start at the Roanoke Bagel Company, and everyone rides together for the first 5 miles. Then, when the 3 Peaks riders turn left onto 12 O’Clock Knob Rd, the Adulare riders will continue on to enjoy Salem’s gorgeous Wildwood Rd. loop!

To make these premier rides even better, the Roanoke Bagel Company is sponsoring the group rides by opening early (6:15am) on Thursday mornings so participants can get pre-ride water, coffee, bagel, juice or a heavenly Blue Collar Joe’s donut … and when the ride is complete, a delicious selection of Roanoke Bagel Company breakfasts will await riders + special discounted pricing for ride participants!

Tremendous morning rides + sponsored by a locally owned bagel, coffee and breakfast company = the new Thursday morning Dream Rides

Ride will occur if temperature at the ride start is 40 degrees or above and it’s not precipitating.

Re-groups: Depending on who attends, re-groups may occur at various locations along both routes. Just in case you lose the group, be sure to bring a map & cue sheet :)

And, just get to the Roanoke Bagel Co. at 6:30am with your road bike! Don’t worry about bringing water, a pump, tools, patch kit or spare tube, etc. because this weekly BRBC group ride is now guided & co-sponsored by the Bike Sherpas Touring Co. and they’re taking care of all of that for FREE for the ride participants!
